Hello all. I would like to welcome us to this blog. As the inaugural post to my blog I feel a strange kind of pressure to write something that properly introduces me to the readers. At this point there are no readers. Non-existent. None. In theory that should lessen the pressure. But then I think that, optimistically, at some point someone will appreciate a post of mine enough to go back and read older posts, including this one. And the pressure creeps in again. One thing I know for sure is that at some point someone will let me know how unprofessional it is to think out loud on my blog. Oops.
It is January 2, 2012. 1/2/12.
Around this time I see a lot of ‘year in review’ articles, and even more ‘what’s coming in 2012’ stories. I must admit I love watching and reading other people’s ideas of what was great or terrible in the year that’s just passed. But as for what’s coming next, I only casually commit to reading and absorbing what’s presented. There’s just too much unknown about the future to pick a ‘team’ going forward. As men, we love to have a team. Not just a literal team, but also a view, opinion, a personal brand if you will. Mostly we like to be right. And if we can be more right than the guy or girl next to us, good on us. So if we can be right slightly before the guy next to us gets there … again, good on us. But not me. I’m perfectly happy with “I don’t know” until more information is available. I’ll definitely repeat things much smarter folks say and agree that it sounds pretty legit … But I won’t go as far as proclaiming it to be an actual fact. No future facts. Not for me.
I hope that there will be something of value in every single post I write and that includes this one. So here it is. Hire for attitude. It doesn’t matter what your business is. The right attitude will help you succeed and the wrong attitude can sink the ship. I was reminded of this by Lindsay Bell. And she’s so right. Even if she does love cats.
That’s going to do it for this edition. I hope to meet many smart and engaging folks through this blog. I love to hear comments, thoughts, and all emotionally charged opinions. So let ‘em fly.
All the best this year, and we’ll talk soon.
Find things to love.
